History almost breathes here. The Museum of the Mountain Man brings alive the colorful exploits of Bridger, William Sublette, and others with unique displays and artifacts. Historic markers throughout the county document the path of the Lander Cuttoff of the Oregon Trail, locations used for Rendezvous, and the travels of the Astorians and other early explorers. The Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney contains fascinating information on the Wardell Buffalo Trap, an early Native American bison hunting location, as well as engaging histories of early ranching families.
